Wave of Student Protests Across Cities Highlights Economic Conditions and Government Policy

Hundreds of students from various universities across several regions staged simultaneous demonstrations on Monday (15/6/2026). In Bandung, students protested in front of the West Java Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) to voice criticism of various national issues, ranging from economic conditions and fuel price increases to the deliberation of the Police Law. In Surabaya, students affiliated with Cipayung Plus Surabaya held a rally in front of the City DPRD building, demanding improvements in national economic governance. Similar demands were also voiced by students during a protest at the Central Java Governor’s Office in Semarang, which featured theatrical performances as a form of criticism of the national economic situation. Meanwhile, students in Malang and the Balikpapan Bergerak Alliance (BARAK) in Balikpapan also held protests demanding better economic governance. In Padang, West Sumatra, students staged a symbolic action by scattering flowers in front of a coffin as a protest against various issues deemed burdensome to the public.
