Waterfall named after ex-minister

JAMBI, Jambi: So proud are the people here of former minister of tourism, art and culture Marzuki Usman, that they have named a waterfall after him.

The 25-meter-high waterfall is situated at a tourist resort at the foot of Kerinci Mountain, some 430 kilometers west of here. The water stems from the Gunung Tujuh Lake, which stands 1,966 meters above sea level and is claimed to be the highest in Southeast Asia.

"They decided to name the fall after me, probably because I was the first high-ranking official to visit there," Marzuki was quoted by Antara on Monday after a ceremony here presided over by Governor Zulkifli Nurdin.

Marzuki hails from the province and was born in Mersam village in Batanghari district. In the last five months of his short term in office, between 1998 and 1999, he also served as acting minister of investment, replacing Hamzah Haz who preferred party work.(01)
