Water supply restored for 21,082 households in West Sumatra within 30 days

Water supply for 21,082 households in West Sumatra has been restored within 30 days after emergency repairs to the drinking water infrastructure damaged by flash floods in November 2025. The restoration was carried out through an emergency response and infrastructure rehabilitation project executed by PT Hutama Karya (Persero) in Agam Regency, South Pesisir Regency, and Padang City. Previous flash floods caused significant damage to pipeline networks and water supply facilities, with several main distribution lines severed and support structures owned by PDAM and Pamsimas affected. In Padang City, the Palukahan water supply system suffered severe damage. The existing weir at Guo Kuranji water supply system, critical for raw water flow to treatment plants, was also damaged. To expedite service restoration, Hutama Karya conducted simultaneous repairs across affected areas. At the critical Guo Kuranji site, a temporary weir was built using three-layer woven geotextile reinforced with large boulders to maintain water flow to treatment plants. In Batu Kambing water supply system, Agam Regency, teams recovered flood-washed pipes for reinstallation, restoring distribution networks. The project also ensured water access for residents in temporary housing (huntara), with 399 households in eight huntara sites across Agam and South Pesisir regencies regaining water supply. Repairs to the Palukahan transmission pipeline and Balai Gadang distribution network restored water for 21,082 household connections, while the emergency weir at Guo Kuranji maintained supply for approximately 6,312 active customers. Challenges included remote locations with limited access to main transport infrastructure in parts of Agam and South Pesisir.
