Water shortage affects thousands

GROBOGAN, Central Java: Thousands of residents living in 66 villages of 15 districts in Grobogan regency have been suffering a shortage of clean water since the onset of the dry season in early July.

"All wells and springs with clean water are dry," Grobogan welfare affairs official Komang Sudiarta said on Tuesday.

Residents have been using muddy water from small wells along the river, he said. "And surely the water is not suitable to be consumed."

The local administration has started distributing free clean water taken from springs in Pulokulon, Wirosari and Klambu districts. (har/edt)
