Water Scarcity Forces Crews to Drill Boreholes to Fight Jambi Forest Fires
Forest and land fires continued to burn oil palm and areca nut plantations in Pandan Sejahtera Village, Tanjung Jabung Timur, Jambi, on Tuesday (25/8/2026). Entering the third day of the blaze, smoke was still rising from the burning peatland.
Manggala Agni personnel from the Bukit Tempurung operations unit, together with a joint team, continued to work intensively to extinguish the fires. The scarcity of water sources was one of the main obstacles, prompting crews to drill boreholes to obtain water supplies and soak the burning land. The characteristics of the peat soil also required extra handling, as fire can spread and persist beneath the ground surface.
