Water rationing in rainy season

Water rationing in rainy season

TUBAN, East Java: About 200 farmers in Mulyoagung village in
Tuban are restless because water supplies from Mlirip River have
been rationed by the authorities for the past two weeks.

Kasrun, the village chief said the farmers' rice fields have
been getting water for four days, and then no water for the next
four days, Antara reported.

Rationing was introduced due to ongoing work to cement the
embankment, Kasrun said. "They cannot plant their rice," he said
of the farmers, underlining that this is the planting season.

He said nearby villages which rely on the river's water have
also been suffering from the rationing. (emb)
