Water-Gallon Truck Overturns and Hits Shops in Bekasi
BEKASI, KOMPAS.com – A truck carrying water gallon bottles, with plate number B 9638 KYU, had a single-vehicle crash on Jalan Swatantra V, Jatirasa, Jatiasih, Bekasi City, on Thursday (5 March 2026) at about 05:30 WIB.
Kanit Gakkum Satlantas Polres Metro Bekasi Kota Iptu Rojali said the accident occurred as the Hino truck was travelling from Pasar Rebo in East Jakarta towards Cipendawa, Bekasi City.
According to witnesses, the crash began when the truck, driven by Jejen Sukmawan (56), passed the bend.
As a result of the manoeuvre, the truck swerved to the left and collided with several buildings along the roadside.
“There were some shops and a restaurant damaged,” he said.
Rojali explained, the warung owned by Heuw Liong (60) sustained light damage.
Meanwhile, Ampar Shop, contracted by Zaenal Damawi (52), sustained damage to the awning and canopy.
Additionally, Warung Madura inhabited by Bahri (40) also suffered damage to several electronic items, including two refrigerators, one freezer, two display cabinets, and a number of goods including drinking water and groceries.
Meanwhile, Warung Padang rented by Bakrizal (50) had damage to the building’s wall.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries.
The crash also caused a long traffic jam on Jalan Swatantra V that morning.
The situation was worsened by road repair works and drainage projects that meant the street could only be passed from one side.
“Saya lewat jalan itu macet karena ada mobil truk terguling. Karena batas jalan yang dibangun baru separuh, jadi kendaraan numpuk di satu titik,” said Hidayat, a Jatirasa resident, to Kompas.com.
