Water crises strike again

PURWOKERTO, Central Java (JP): Drought has hit many areas in Purwokerto, with many communities having trouble finding a clean water supply.

"Three weeks with no rain has left many wells dry," 55-year- old Sumeri, a resident of Banyumas, told Antara.

The villages worst hit by the drought include Gumelar, Tambak, Kemranjen and Sumpiuh.

Lack of fresh water is also threatening some of the local crops, the news agency said.

Water crises have also developed further south in Cilacap. There people have to walk up to 15 kilometers to find water. (03)
