Water company to start resource education

JAKARTA: To increase awareness about the importance of natural resources, the foreign partner of city water company PT Thames PAM Jaya (TPJ), will soon begin a water education program for elementary and junior high school students.

The compact disc module, aimed to encourage children to spread the word about water conservation, the company said.

"Children have high capacities to learn new things, to create early changes for a better world and to influence people within their families and neighborhoods," the company said in a statement.

Last week, as part of its programs to protect the environment, TPJ gave awards to eight young environmentalists ranging from nine to 15 years old.

They were asked to carry out environmental projects, including cleaning up local parks or initiating recycling schemes and present their results to a jury.

Some 90 children related to members of TPJ's staff participated in the annual contest, organized globally by the United Kingdom's Young People Trust for the Environment and Nature Conservation. -- JP
