Bogor Police deployed an Armored Water Cannon (AWC) to clear volcanic ash deposits from a number of main roads in Bogor Regency, West Java, on Sunday, 6 September 2026.

Bogor Police Chief, AKBP Wikha Ardilestanto, said the deployment of the armored water cannon was an effort to reduce ash stuck to road surfaces and prevent it from becoming airborne again when vehicles passed over it.

“Spraying using the AWC was carried out along Jalan Raya Jakarta-Bogor up to the Sentul Alternative Road, which is one of the routes with fairly high vehicle activity,” said Wikha.

The AWC vehicle, normally used for crowd control, was utilised to spray road surfaces with pressurised water so that ash deposits could be cleaned off.

The measure was also taken to reduce the risk of ash becoming airborne again after being run over by vehicles and to help maintain visibility for motorists.

The deployment of the AWC is part of a series of measures being carried out by Bogor Police following the appearance of volcanic ash as a result of the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.

In addition to spraying the roads, Bogor Police together with sector police personnel also distributed N95 and KN95 masks to the public, especially motorcyclists and pedestrians carrying out outdoor activities.

Officers also provided education to the public about the importance of wearing masks to reduce exposure to ash particles that could potentially disrupt the respiratory tract.

Bogor Police urged the public to continue using personal protective equipment when carrying out outdoor activities and to increase vigilance when driving.

Motorists were also asked to reduce speed when passing through sections that had been sprayed because the road surface becomes wet and potentially more slippery.
