Watching Football and Concerts at JIS Now Accessible via Commuter Line
There is good news for Jakarta residents. The Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) Commuter Line station in North Jakarta officially began operations today. Watching football matches and concerts at JIS Stadium can now be done by taking the KRL commuter train.
The inaugural operation of the JIS KRL Station was inaugurated by DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung. He stated that this is a gift for Jakarta’s 499th anniversary.
“No one is more grateful than I am because once this is realised, this is one of my personal dreams,” Pramono said at JIS Station, North Jakarta, on Monday.
Pramono thanked Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwaghandi. He hopes JIS Station will make it easier for the public to reach JIS.
“Sooner or later, this place will certainly become one of the areas or places that is widely visited by the public,” he said.
JIS Station is located between Tanjung Priuk Station and Ancol Station. This station opens direct access for residents wishing to go to JIS. JIS Station consists of one platform and serves the Tanjung Priok-Jakarta Kota KRL route.
Pramono expressed confidence that JIS KRL Station can reduce congestion when concerts and football matches are held. Access to public transport in the Ancol and JIS area can now be eased with the operation of the station.
“I hope that this will become a starting point or initial foundation for more optimal utilisation of JIS,” Pramono said.
Pramono noted that the main problem at JIS is parking. With the KRL at JIS Station, Transjabodetabek buses, and parking at Ancol, Pramono is confident it will significantly reduce traffic.
“Because as we know, the main problem at JIS is parking and transportation issues. With this KRL, and also Transjabodetabek, and people can now park at Ancol, from Ancol it is only about 300-400 metres to JIS,” he said.
“This will greatly reduce the traffic that has been a problem whenever there are concerts or football matches,” he added.
Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwaghandi stated that the operational service hours of JIS KRL Station can be extended when there are events that draw large crowds.
“For train scheduling, we will adjust it to the events organised by the regional government, Ancol, or JIS. As you know, for certain events we extend the service hours of trains like the MRT,” Dudy said.
“For certain events, like recently at Java Jazz, we also extended the operational hours of train services and station services,” he added.
The JIS KRL schedule currently operates until 9:30 PM Western Indonesian Time. Dudy said the operational hours will later be extended according to the events taking place.
“Currently we operate until 9:30 PM, but if there is a special event in this area, the operations will be extended,” he said.
Dudy explained that the JIS Station KRL on the Tanjung Priuk-Jakarta Kota route currently has only one platform. However, he stated there will be further development for JIS KRL services.
“It is indeed still one platform, and we have conveyed to the DKI Government that we will develop it further. And I need to inform you that as of today, this station is already active and can serve passengers,” he said.
Dudy noted that the distance from JIS KRL Station to Jakarta Kota Station takes only 15 minutes. The Ministry of Transportation is targeting JIS KRL Station to become a permanent station next year.
“So the end-to-end distance is about 15 minutes, if I’m not mistaken, from here to Kota is about 10 minutes. So it is already active and we will increasingly develop it into a permanent station. We hope the target will be completed within the next year,” Dudy explained.
