Watch when driving in Bekasi
From Kompas
As I was driving from Bekasi to Jakarta on May 17, 2001, my
car's left rear mirror was hit by a man in a passing vehicle just
after the traffic lights in front of Grand Mall in West Bekasi.
Then after driving about 400 meters, a passenger in a black
Kijang van that was overtaking my car commanded me to take the
left turn and stop my car.
That was my second experience as some nine months ago, I was
robbed of Rp 800,000 also in West Bekasi.
The police advised that if you suspect your car was
intentionally hit from behind, or someone was pretending he had
been hit by your car, don't stop or even open the car door or
window. Instead contact the nearest police station at 8855775 for
Bekasi, 8842752 for West Bekasi and 4604348 for Cakung. Robbers
usually target women or old men driving alone.
Therefore, I would like to urge police to conduct routine
checks along roads where motorists are vulnerable to robberies.
It's no use noting the license number of the suspected car as
often they use fake license plates. Just be careful, particularly
when driving between Kranji and Cakung. It's a long stretch of
road and police stations are few and far between.
