The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) declared the Waste Sorting Movement on Sunday (10/5/2026). In this movement, Jakarta residents are required to sort their waste according to type, starting from organic, inorganic, B3, and residual waste.

Chairman of the Special Committee (Pansus) on Waste Management of the Jakarta Provincial DPRD, Judistira Hermawan, welcomed the movement. However, he assessed that the movement would succeed if the facilities and infrastructure in the community environment were adequate.

“Well, what’s prepared so far is just the blue bin (drop point),” he said at the waste bank in the Kayu Manis area, Matraman, East Jakarta, on Sunday (10/5/2026).

According to him, that facility is certainly not sufficient for the waste sorting movement. This is because the movement requires the presence of facilities and infrastructure that can truly accommodate waste that has been sorted by the community.

Therefore, Judistira asked the Jakarta Provincial Government to provide waste sorting facilities and infrastructure. According to him, those facilities must be available down to the community environment or neighbourhood units (RT).

He assessed that the waste sorting movement newly declared by the Pemprov Jakarta must not stop at socialisation. More than that, the Pemprov Jakarta must also provide supporting infrastructure in residential areas.

“So we need to provide the facilities and infrastructure to the community so that the community wants to follow what has been directed by the government. ‘Oh yes, I put my waste here, I sort it from home, I put it there,’” he said.

In that event, Judistira, who is also the Daily Chairman of the DPD Partai Golkar Jakarta, also provided assistance of five waste bins with two compartments for sorting to the local environment. He hopes that the assistance can facilitate residents in carrying out the waste sorting movement.

Not only providing waste bins, the Golkar Party Faction of the Jakarta Provincial DPRD will also push the Pemprov Jakarta to truly ensure the Waste Sorting Movement runs well. One of them is by providing adequate facilities and infrastructure.

“We, the Golkar Party Faction, will push so that the Environment Agency really ensures that all RW, even all RT, get waste bins or dustbins like this, so that when the community really wants to support the source-separated waste management programme, they know where to put the waste that they have sorted,” he said.
