The amount of waste produced in Central Java Province is predicted to increase during the 2026 Eid holiday period. This is due to groups of travellers arriving or passing through Central Java on their way home for the holidays. “When there is an increase in the number of people travelling home, the waste also increases,” stated Widi Hartanto, Head of the Provincial Environmental and Forestry Office (DLHK), on Sunday (22/3/2026). Widi said he has not yet received data on the number of travellers entering Central Java this Eid. However, it is certain that waste production in Central Java will increase due to the movement of people. According to Widi, his office is deploying teams to inspect locations traversed or visited by travellers, such as terminals, stations, and rest areas. These teams are monitoring the extent of waste management at the relevant sites. “The managers of these areas must also carry out proper waste management. For example, organic and inorganic waste must be separated,” said Widi.
