Waste Processing Machine Operator Dies After Falling Into Shredder in Solo

A waste processing operator named Edy Saputro fell into a garbage shredding machine at the Putri Cempo Waste-to-Energy Power Plant (PLTSA) in Solo on Monday, 2 March. The victim died at the scene before emergency assistance could be provided.

One of the waste pickers at the Putri Cempo disposal site, Eko Surani, reported that the fatal incident occurred at approximately 10:00 WIB. He said he suddenly heard the victim crying out to his colleagues to turn off the shredding machine.

“There was a cry for help, turn off the machine,” Eko said.

According to him, emergency services arrived relatively quickly, approximately 10 minutes after the accident. However, the victim was already deceased due to severe injuries sustained from the machinery.

“The ambulance arrived together with the fire service,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Herwin Nugroho, Head of the Environmental Service Department (DLH) of Solo City, confirmed that the garbage shredding machine was operated by PLTSA Putri Cempo operator, PT Solo Citra Metro Plasma Power (SCMPP).

“We are still awaiting a statement from PT SCMPP regarding what happened with their staff who were present at the scene,” Herwin said.
