Jakarta – Waste piled up in front of the TPS3R (Waste Processing, Reduction, Reuse, Recycling Centre) Hanura on Jalan Hanura Ketapang, Krukut, Taman Sari, West Jakarta, has prompted complaints from residents.

The waste accumulated over approximately one week has sprawled across roughly 50 metres, disrupting residents’ activities and road users. The waste pile has encroached upon part of the roadway, causing traffic congestion.

“It’s disruptive, there’s a traffic jam, and the waste is scattered everywhere like this,” said Roni when encountered by Kompas.com at the location on Saturday, 14 March 2026.

According to him, the accumulated waste on the roadside is frequently carried by vehicle tyres passing through, soiling the area in front of residents’ homes. Roni also noted that a pungent odour often emerges when rain falls because leachate from the waste flows into the road.

Beyond causing odours, the leachate makes the road surface slippery, potentially endangering motorists.

Another resident, Sukardi (38), also complained of similar conditions. He said that apart from the foul smell, the roadside waste pile frequently generates maggots, particularly in the mornings.

“When it’s like this on the road in the morning, the maggots all come out,” he explained.

Sukardi believes the waste processing machinery inside the TPS3R Hanura facility is not functioning optimally, resulting in frequent waste accumulation. Consequently, waste collection transport operations are not running smoothly as usual. He therefore hopes that the waste currently piled on the road can be relocated back inside the TPS3R facility to prevent environmental contamination of the surrounding area.
