BEKASI – A waste pile at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management Facility (TPST) in Bekasi City collapsed on Sunday afternoon (8 March 2026). The incident killed three people and buried several garbage trucks and stalls in the surrounding area.

The collapse was captured in several videos circulating on social media, showing the waste pile at the Bantargebang TPST site crumbling and covering part of the road in the dumping area.

“This has happened again, the waste has collapsed. The waste pile that collapsed previously has collapsed again, burying cars,” said a resident who recorded the incident.

The resident also noted that many trucks were queuing to unload waste when the incident occurred.

“There are still many cars lined up along here wanting to dump. There are many vehicles there, including stalls and all sorts of things here,” the resident said.

According to Desiana, a spokesperson for the Bekasi City Fire and Rescue Department, “A landslide occurred in zone 4 of the Bantargebang landfill at 15:29 WIB, and three fatalities have been found so far.”

The three deceased consisted of two stall owners and one garbage truck driver. The two stall owners were named Enda Widayanti, aged 25, and Sumine, aged 60, whilst the third victim was Dedi Sutrisno, a garbage truck driver from Karawang.

“The victims have died; two have been taken home to Banten and one has been taken home to Karawang,” Desiana stated.

Eko Uban, a rescue team member from the Bekasi City Fire and Rescue Department, said that overall, 10 people were affected by the incident, comprising five garbage truck drivers and five residents and waste pickers.

“Two drivers are still being searched for and three residents are still being searched for,” Eko said when contacted on Sunday.

Eko stated that the collapse occurred whilst several trucks were queuing to dump their loads.

“As the garbage trucks were queuing to dump their waste, the waste pile suddenly collapsed, burying the drivers who were waiting to dump their waste,” Eko explained.

Officers are currently still conducting a census as many garbage trucks and stalls remain buried under the debris.
