Waste mountain at Bantargebang landfill, Bekasi collapses; three people killed
Trash at Bantargebang landfill in Bekasi, West Java, collapsed, killing three people on Sunday (8/3). Desiana Kartika Bahari, head of the Jakarta Search and Rescue Office, explained the three victims consisted of two women who owned warungs (small shops) and a man who was a truck driver. All three had been evacuated. ‘Two people were taken home to Banten and one person to Karawang,’ she said. She explained the landslide occurred in Zone 4 of Bantargebang landfill. Bahari said there were still many waste trucks and warungs buried at the site. Additionally, SAR teams were still registering the total number of victims. ‘There are still many waste trucks and warungs buried in the area. For the time being, the number of victims is being counted,’ she said.
