Waste Heap in Cilincing Estimated to Cover 5.8 Hectares
JAKARTA — The Head of the North Jakarta Environmental Affairs Sub-Agency (Sudin LH), Eddy Mulyanto, stated that the waste heap in Rawa Malang, Cilincing, North Jakarta, spans several hectares.
“The location is suspected to have been used as an illegal waste dumping site since approximately 2000, with the accumulated waste area estimated to reach approximately 5.8 hectares,” he said in an official statement on Monday, 9 March 2026.
He added that the land ownership status in the area is currently disputed (status quo).
Eddy explained that at the waste dump site, there is also management activity conducted by groups of scavengers organised within a cooperative. The authorities also discovered two waste transport vehicles belonging to private companies suspected of dumping at the location.
Additionally, according to Eddy, the North Jakarta City Government has implemented several measures to prevent illegal waste dumping activities in the area.
“Officers have installed warning signs prohibiting indiscriminate waste dumping as well as CCTV monitoring markers at several strategic points around the location,” he explained.
