JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Jakarta Environment Agency (DLH DKI Jakarta) activated an emergency response operation following a collapsed waste heap at the Bantargebang Waste Transfer Station (TPST Bantargebang) area on Sunday, 8 March 2026. Asep Kuswanto, head of DLH DKI Jakarta, said the emergency response operation prioritises casualty handling and expediting the evacuation of vehicles buried in the landslide. ‘As soon as the incident was reported, we immediately activated the emergency response operation. The primary priorities are the safety of our staff, handling of casualties, and expediting the evacuation of vehicles buried by the debris,’ he said in a statement on Sunday. During the response at the scene, authorities deployed 13 excavators to clear the collapsed waste heap. Of seven trucks affected by the landslide, five have been evacuated. The remaining two trucks are still being evacuated by a joint team. ‘The other two trucks are still in the evacuation process, namely the vehicles driven by Riki Supriyadi of the North Jakarta Environmental Service Office (Sudin LH Jakarta Utara) and Irwan Supriyatin,’ he said. Meanwhile, DLH DKI Jakarta is also organising the waste dumping area to prevent the risk of secondary landslides. ‘Safety in operating the waste management service at Bantargebang TPST is the foremost priority. After the area is deemed safe, we stabilise and organise the dump zones to bring conditions back under control,’ said Asep. Although the evacuation is ongoing, Jakarta’s waste management operations continue to be pursued. ‘At present we are asking the personnel of Sudin LH Jakarta to postpone sending waste to Bantargebang TPST until the evacuation is completed,’ he said.
