The ‘Waste-for-Payment’ Bazaar has become one of the strategies to tackle inorganic waste issues in Bandung.

During the event held at Bandung City Hall, West Java, on Saturday (12/09/2026), numerous children brought pre-sorted inorganic waste to exchange for coupons. The Bandung City Government organised this initiative to serve citizens by allowing them to trade inorganic waste—such as plastic, paper, metal, and glass—for health examination services, free medicine, and the distribution of 1,000 pairs of free spectacles, as well as discount coupons for basic food supplies, culinary items, and fashion.

Residents queued to weigh their sorted waste in exchange for coupons during the bazaar. This programme aims to incentivise waste management at the community level by providing tangible economic and health-related rewards.
