Waste Dump Landslide in Bantargebang: Four Dead, Several Still Buried
A waste dump at the Integrated Waste Management Facility (TPST) Bantargebang in Bekasi City experienced a landslide on Sunday, 8 March 2026 at approximately 14.30 WIB. The incident resulted in multiple fatalities at the facility managed by Jakarta Province’s Regional Government.
Isnawa Adji, Head of the Jakarta Province Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), reported that by Sunday at 21.00 WIB, four bodies had been recovered from the site. However, evacuation efforts were ongoing as additional victims were believed to be trapped beneath the debris.
“Four people have been recovered deceased—two women and two men,” he stated on Sunday evening.
The four fatalities have been identified as Sumini (60), a warung owner; Enda Widayanti (25), a waste picker; and two truck drivers, Dedi Sutrisno and Irwan Supriatain (42).
Authorities estimated that approximately ten people were buried in the landslide. However, two individuals, Jonan and Risno, were successfully rescued alive. The two truck drivers received medical treatment.
“Preliminary estimates suggest ten people were buried—five residents and five garbage truck drivers,” Adji said.
The landslide occurred as several garbage trucks were queuing to unload waste at the facility. The collapse suddenly engulfed five trucks and a nearby warung. Authorities believe the landslide was triggered by prolonged heavy rainfall.
Search and rescue operations, involving a combined team of responders and 20 excavators, continued at the site.
