Waste Collection at Jatinegara TPS Targeted for Completion in One Week
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The East Jakarta Environment Sub-Department (Sudin LH) is targeting the completion of waste transportation from the temporary storage site (TPS) in the Jatinegara area, East Jakarta, to the TPST Bantargebang in Bekasi, within one week.
“Daily, we are routinely trying to chip away at it. With yesterday’s incident that temporarily stopped operations at Bantargebang, there was indeed a buildup there, and we will resolve it perhaps within a week or more,” stated the Head of Sudin LH East Jakarta, Julius Monangta, in Pulogebang, East Jakarta, on Monday (30/3/2026).
Julius explained that his team is currently deploying around 15 large trucks to clear the waste at the TPS.
“By maximising large-type vehicles with a 10-tonne capacity. That’s what we are utilising because the slots there (at Bantargebang) are also limited,” he said.
“We don’t want small-tonnage vehicles going there anymore, wasting slots. We ensure that the waste from East Jakarta residents is saved every day. We send it to Bantargebang,” he added.
Julius further noted that the queues of rubbish carts at the Jatinegara TPS area occurred due to the temporary closure of TPST Bantargebang following a landslide.
It was previously reported that dozens of rubbish carts were queuing to unload at the TPS in Jatinegara, East Jakarta.
Based on a video uploaded by the Instagram account @kabar.jaktim, the carts were parked along the bicycle lane in the Banjir Kanal Timur (BKT) area, Jatinegara.
The waste transportation queues were suspected to have occurred due to the closure of TPST Bantargebang in Bekasi City after the landslide.
On Monday (30/3/2026) afternoon, queues of rubbish carts were still visible as workers prepared to dispose of waste at the TPS before loading it onto transport trucks.
There were around 20 rubbish carts queuing for about 45 metres along the entrance road to the TPS. Nevertheless, the queues did not last long. The rubbish collectors relatively quickly disposed of the waste they brought to the TPS.
One heavy excavator-type machine was also observed being deployed to move the waste into trucks before it was transported to the final disposal site.
