Waste Cart Queues Snake Through Rawajati TPS as Bantar Gebang Quota Cuts Bite
Sanitation workers were seen sleeping as they waited in long queues to unload waste at the Rawajati temporary disposal site (TPS) in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/6/2026). According to the workers, the queue of hundreds of waste carts occurred because unloading activities were hampered by a reduction in the disposal quota to the Bantar Gebang landfill, from 18 rubbish trucks per day for the Pancoran area to just 11 trucks per day. Meanwhile, data from the DKI Jakarta Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) shows that the volume of waste produced in DKI Jakarta reaches 9,000 tonnes per day. This poses a serious challenge for the DKI Jakarta provincial government in tackling waste management issues from upstream to downstream, in order to make Jakarta a clean, healthy, and sustainable city.
