Purwokerto (ANTARA) - The development of waste-to-energy is seen as capable of supporting Indonesia’s target of zero carbon emissions through strengthening sustainable energy systems and integrated policies at the local level.

That statement emerged during the ISEI Industry Matching and focused group discussion (FGD) titled “Waste-to-Energy Projects for National Energy Resilience”, organised by the Indonesian Economists Association (ISEI) together with the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed) and Bank Indonesia (BI) in Purwokerto, Central Java, on Tuesday.

Dean of FEB Unsoed Purwokerto, Prof Wiwiek Rabiatul Adawiyah, said that the transition to clean energy is a global demand that must be responded to through innovation and adaptive policies.

According to her, Indonesia’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions in 2060 or earlier requires a fundamental transformation in the national energy system, including the utilisation of alternative energy sources.

Prof Wiwiek said that strengthening local policies is an important factor in integrating integrated waste management with the development of renewable energy based on the circular economy.

Meanwhile, Aviliani, Chair of Sector VI of the ISEI Central Board, emphasised the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration to ensure the sustainability of waste-based energy projects.

According to her, the involvement of government, academics, business actors, and the community is key to accelerating the implementation of the programme while expanding its impact.
