The waste bank programme has emerged as a solution to waste management challenges in the Rorotan area, North Jakarta. Through this initiative, the community is encouraged to manage waste at the source by sorting and utilising materials that possess economic value.

“In addition to helping reduce the burden on the Bantar Gebang landfill, this programme also provides financial benefits while increasing the environmental awareness of the community,” stated the Head of the North Jakarta Environmental Service, Edy Mulyanto, during the distribution of donations from Mandiri Utama Finance (MUF) for the development of the waste bank programme in Rorotan, Cilincing, North Jakarta, on Saturday (16/5/2026).

Also present at the ceremonial event were MUF’s Corporate Secretary & Legal Division Head Elisabeth Lidya Sirait, the Chairperson of the Kumala Foundation Dindin Komarudin, the Rorotan Village Head, and representatives from local RW and RT community leaders.

Edy expressed his appreciation for the collaboration, hoping the programme would encourage residents to be more active in sorting and managing household waste into economically valuable products. “Beyond creating a cleaner environment, this activity also aims to improve financial literacy and the economic independence of residents, as inorganic waste such as plastic and paper is sorted and saved in the waste bank,” Edly concluded.

Elisabeth Lidya Sirait stated that MUF is committed to environmental preservation and community empowerment through the provision of donations for the waste bank programme in Rorotan. This activity is part of the company’s implementation of Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) in collaboration with the Kumala Foundation and the North Jakarta Environmental Service.

She noted that the initiative has received a positive response from the community as it provides tangible benefits for both environmental cleanliness and the economic value of residents. In its implementation, Elisabeth explained that MUF is providing support in the form of facilities and infrastructure for the waste bank, as well as financial education to ensure that the proceeds from waste management can be managed more productively and sustainably.

She emphasised that the assistance for the waste processing system in Rorotan is a manifestation of the company’s commitment to creating a sustainable social impact. “Through this waste bank programme in Rorotan, we want to provide a real contribution that not only impacts the environment but is also capable of improving community welfare. We believe that collaboration between the business world, the government, and the community can be a great force in creating positive, sustainable change,” Elisabeth remarked.
