Waskita Karya Pushes for Acceleration of People's School Project in East Java
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk has realised 45.5% of the construction of the People’s School (SR) project in East Java. This achievement was directly verified by Waskita Karya’s President Director Muhammad Hanugroho, accompanied by Operations Director II Paulus Budi Kartiko, during inspections of several SR project sites in East Java.
Waskita Karya has been entrusted with constructing five SRs in the province, spanning Gresik Regency, Jombang, Sampang, Tuban, and Surabaya City. They are targeted for completion by mid-year and to be ready for immediate use.
Muhammad Hanugroho assured that the SR construction by Waskita Karya is being pursued relentlessly. For him, this building is not an ordinary project, but a determinant of the nation’s future.
“The People’s School is part of the company’s contribution to supporting equitable access to decent and quality education. This work is not merely about completing the project construction, but also a long-term investment for Indonesian children in supporting the teaching and learning process, which is a determinant of the nation’s future,” he stated in an official release on Thursday (30/4/2026).
In line with the Ministry of Public Works (PU) directives, all Phase II SR constructions must be ready for use at the start of the new academic year in July. The acceleration efforts were also emphasised by Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo during a coordination meeting with seven Karya SOEs as implementing contractors.
Dody stated that the SR construction is one of the government’s priority programmes in improving human resource quality through the provision of decent and modern educational facilities. He urged the acceleration of resolving various technical obstacles in the field, from construction access, material mobilisation, workforce needs, and readiness of supporting infrastructure to ensure all project stages can proceed according to target.
“Always prioritise quality in its construction. Both in terms of materials and building structures, because this school building must be able to last for at least 20 years of use,” Dody explained.
Previously, Dody had also directly inspected the SR construction site in Surabaya. He praised Waskita Karya’s work results, which were deemed fast and prioritising quality.
“Waskita (its work) is good. Thank you, Mr Contractor, hopefully it will be completed before June 2026,” he said.
Waskita Karya’s Corporate Secretary Ermy Puspa Yunita added that the field team is committed to completing the SR construction as quickly as possible while still paying attention to quality standards and work safety. They work day and night in shifts tirelessly.
“High dedication and hard work of hundreds of workers become the spearhead of the project’s success. For them, succeeding this Government Priority Programme is the main goal,” she said.
She mentioned that the SR in East Java is being worked on by nearly 4,000 people, including local workers.
“In the future, we will continue to absorb more local workers to complete the project. This way, it not only brings broad socio-economic benefits but also activates the informal sector, while improving community welfare,” Ermy explained.
