Waskita Karya Guarantees Jakarta LRT is Safe for Public Use
The Director of Operations II at Waskita Karya, Paulus Budi Kartiko, stated that the Jakarta LRT, particularly the Velodrome-Manggarai route constructed by the company, has undergone various thorough and structured tests. Consequently, the company ensures that this public transport is safe and comfortable for use by tens of thousands of citizens.
“We are proud to contribute to providing a modern mode of public transport capable of facilitating the activities of residents in Jakarta and its surroundings. For Waskita, the Jakarta LRT is not merely a project, but part of our track record in building this nation,” he said in an official statement in Jakarta on Thursday (17/09/2026).
As a contractor, Paulus noted that executing projects amidst Jakarta’s heavy traffic and limited space is challenging. Nevertheless, the company successfully completed the work through the implementation of several innovations, such as the use of balance cantilevers above the Wiyoto Wiyono Toll elevated track and long-span steel box girders spanning across the Manggarai dual tracks.
“All methods and structures continue to prioritise Occupational Health and Safety (K3) standards,” he said. Paulus mentioned that the field team also installed safety nets around the balance girder segments and conducted regular daily monitoring surveys and chamber inspections.
As a result of these measures, Waskita successfully achieved 7.5 million safe man-hours without lost time injuries during the construction process. “For us, the safety of road users and workers is paramount. We also continue to coordinate with Jakpro (Jakarta Propertindo) as the project owner to navigate various situations,” said Paulus.
According to him, moving forward, Waskita Karya is prepared to continue supporting the strengthening of inter-regional connectivity and the integration of public transport in the metropolitan city. The company also continues to encourage Jakarta to become not only a modern city but also an environmentally friendly one.
“We are optimistic that the presence of Jakarta LRT Phase 1B will increase public transport options in the capital. This electric-based public transport is the best solution for creating healthier, cleaner urban air, while simultaneously supporting net zero emission (NZE) targets,” said Paulus.
