PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk, together with the Ministry of Public Works, has completed the construction of dozens of temporary shelters in Langkahan District, North Aceh, Aceh.

A total of five blocks of housing, built on an area of 3,643 square meters, can accommodate up to 300 people.

During an inspection of the site with Waskita Karya’s Director of Operations II, Paulus Budi Kartiko, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo ensured the readiness of the facilities so that they can be used before Eid al-Fitr.

Dody said that the five blocks, with a capacity of 60 families, have begun to be occupied.

The remaining blocks are targeted for completion before Eid al-Fitr so that affected residents can immediately occupy the housing.

On this occasion, Dody appreciated Waskita Karya’s performance. According to him, the buildings that have been built are able to create a cool and comfortable atmosphere for the residents.

“The facilities are up to standard, more comfortable inside than here (outside the temporary shelters). It’s hot here, but inside it’s cool, not stuffy. It really isn’t stuffy inside,” said Dody.

Waskita Karya’s Corporate Secretary, Ermy Puspa Yunita, explained that the temporary shelters were built using a modular system with a lightweight steel structure so that the construction process was carried out quickly and efficiently, without neglecting quality.

“The construction of temporary shelters is a manifestation of the company’s commitment to providing temporary housing that has decent standards and maintained quality. The presence of these temporary shelters also supports the restoration of basic services for affected residents,” said Ermy.

Each block of temporary shelter is also equipped with sanitation facilities, such as toilets, bathrooms, and disabled toilets, as well as a waste disposal system to maintain environmental cleanliness.

“For Waskita Karya, the comfort of the residents in the temporary shelters is the main priority. We hope that the housing built together with the Ministry of Public Works can be a place to gather with family and carry out normal activities,” said Ermy.

“Building temporary shelters for Waskita Karya is not only about providing housing, but also about creating new hope for the community. We will continue to be part of the efforts to restore disaster-affected areas for the affected community,” Ermy emphasized.

Meanwhile, one of the residents of North Aceh, Wani Safrianti, said that she can now cook and take care of her children comfortably since moving to the temporary shelter.

“Now it’s comfortable living in the temporary shelter. It’s not hot anymore. Living here is more comfortable than in the evacuation tent,” she said.

Previously, the company, together with Danantara, had handed over 96 houses in North Aceh. In addition, 600 temporary shelters have been handed over to the Aceh Tamiang Regency Government in January 2026.
