In line with directives from the Ministry of Public Works (PU), all construction for Phase II of the People’s Schools must be ready for use at the start of the new academic year in July.

The President Director of PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk, Muhammad Hanugroho, has assured that the company is relentlessly pursuing the People’s School (SR) project. For him, this building is not an ordinary project, but a determinant of the nation’s future.

“The People’s School is part of the company’s contribution to supporting equitable access to decent and quality education. This work is not merely about completing the project construction, but also a long-term investment for Indonesian children in supporting the teaching and learning process, which is a determinant of the nation’s future,” said Hanugroho in his statement on Thursday (30/4/2026).

He said this while directly inspecting several People’s School project sites in East Java. On that occasion, he was accompanied by Waskita Karya’s Director of Operations II, Paulus Budi Kartiko.

Meanwhile, Waskita Karya’s Corporate Secretary, Ermy Puspa Yunita, added that the field team is committed to completing the SR construction as quickly as possible while still paying attention to quality standards and work safety. They work day and night in shifts without tiring.

“The high dedication and hard work of hundreds of workers are the spearhead of the project’s success. For them, succeeding this Government Priority Programme is the main goal,” she said.

She mentioned that the SR in East Java is being handled by nearly 4,000 people, including local workers.

“In the future, we will continue to absorb more local workers to complete the project. This way, it not only brings broad benefits to the socio-economy, but also activates the informal sector, while improving community welfare,” explained Ermy.

These acceleration efforts were also emphasised by the Minister of PU, Dody Hanggodo, in a coordination meeting with seven state-owned construction companies as implementing contractors.

Dody stated that the construction of SR is one of the government’s priority programmes in improving human resource quality through the provision of decent and modern educational facilities.

He urged the acceleration of resolving various technical obstacles in the field, from construction access, material mobilisation, workforce needs, and readiness of supporting infrastructure to ensure all project construction stages can proceed according to target.

“Always prioritise quality in its construction. Both in terms of materials and building structures, because this school building must be able to last to be used for at least 20 years,” said Dody during his inspection of the progress of SR Phase II construction in Surabaya City, East Java, on Sunday (12/4) previously.

Previously, Dody had also directly viewed the SR work sites in Surabaya. He praised Waskita Karya’s work results, which were deemed fast and prioritising quality.

“Waskita (its work) is good. Thank you, Mr Contractor, hopefully it will be completed before June 2026,” he said.
