Waskita Karya Accelerates Jakarta LRT Phase 1B Construction as Track Tests Run Smoothly
PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk, together with PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda), has started a series of testing and commissioning (T&C) of the integrated rail transit system (light rapid transit, LRT) Jakarta Phase 1B Velodrome–Manggarai. One stage already completed is the test of a 3.6-kilometre track linking Velodrome Station with Pramuka Station. Jakarta Propertindo’s President Director Iwan Takwin said the T&C stage is conducted in detail to ensure that the entire system is ready for use before commercial operations begin. The tests cover all components and subsystems, from track, signalling, electricals, communications, to operational integration. Waskita’s Operations Director II Paulus Budi Kartiko said Waskita’s involvement in Jakarta LRT Phase 1B is not only about construction work but also a platform to showcase the company’s capabilities. He said the project, with high visibility, makes workmanship quality directly impact the company’s long-term reputation. The scope of Waskita Karya’s work on the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B includes civil, rail, systems, and operations integration. The company continues to accelerate its construction so it can be utilised by the public soon. Paulus said one of the main challenges is Jakarta’s heavy traffic and limited workspace in the construction area. The solution is to optimise night-time work, which demands focus and innovation in safety systems and working methods. He said they view these conditions as challenges to be managed, not avoided. In the course of the track tests, one of the lines traversed sits above the active Wiyoto Wiyono Toll Road at km 1+700 to 2+100. To maintain traffic flow during the construction, Waskita employed the balance cantilever method with a 120-metre span. He added that survey and chamber monitoring were carried out regularly on a daily basis. Field teams also installed safety nets around the balance girder segments.
