Waskita accelerates LRT Jakarta Phase 1B construction for August operation
PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk is accelerating construction of the LRT Jakarta Phase 1B Velodrome–Manggarai section so that it can begin operations on target in August 2026.
Waskita Karya’s Director of Operations II, Paulus Budi Kartiko, said the company has now completed the installation of steel box girders above the active Double-Double Track (DDT) at Manggarai.
“We have now completed the installation of steel box girders above the active Double-Double Track (DDT) railway at Manggarai, within a limited window time of less than three hours. The girder installation was carried out without disrupting the operations of commuter trains or intercity trains passing through the line,” Paulus said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to him, the girder installation without disturbing rail traffic on the route demonstrates the company’s strong commitment to implementing the Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) system.
Even as the project is being pursued at pace, the company continues to pay attention to quality standards, worker safety, and minimising negative environmental impacts.
The company has also recorded 7.5 million safe working hours without lost time injuries on the LRT Jakarta Phase 1B construction. This achievement is evidence of the consistent implementation of occupational safety and health (K3) standards.
“These 7.5 million safe working hours are an important foundation for a project carried out amid Jakarta’s dense traffic and limited working space. As is known, the main challenge (urban constraint) in building LRT Jakarta includes Jakarta’s perpetually congested traffic,” Paulus said.
“It is scheduled that by 1 August, the slab track work will have been cast. That will support preparations for train run testing up to Manggarai Station,” he added.
He revealed that train run testing has already been carried out several times as far as Kayu Manis Station. Testing of the 3.6-kilometre route showed that the transport system is safe for public use.
The company is also continuing systematic and structured testing of all components, from the track, signalling, and electrification to communications and operational integration.
“Every metre of the LRT Jakarta Phase 1B route is part of Waskita’s responsibility to the public, so we carry out the work with full calculation, precision, and continuous coordination with Jakpro as the project owner,” Paulus said.
He further emphasised that Waskita Karya is committed to supporting and overseeing the realisation of fully integrated transport modes in the capital.
“We are optimistic that the presence of LRT Jakarta Phase 1B will not only add a modern public transport option, but will also make it easier for residents to move around and encourage a shift from private vehicles to public transport,” Paulus concluded.
