Waskita Accelerates Aceh's People's School Project, 1,000 Workers Deployed for 24-Hour Operations
The completion of this project aligns with directives from the Ministry of Public Works (PU), which targets the full completion and readiness of all Phase II People’s School constructions for the new academic year in July.
Waskita Karya’s Corporate Secretary, Ermy Puspa Yunita, stated that the project work is being accelerated by thousands of workers. The project, situated on a 60,519 square metre site, encompasses the construction of high school, junior high school, and primary school buildings, dormitories, and sports facilities.
“Nearly 1,000 Waskita workers on site are working 24 hours in shifts to complete the Aceh People’s School, including in Subulussalam. We will continue to increase the number of workers to 1,200 or even up to 1,500 at its peak,” said Ermy in her statement on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
Amid acceleration efforts, Waskita prioritises work safety aspects. To date, the total safe working hours without accidents have reached 412,156 hours.
“This work is part of our contribution to the success of the Government’s Priority Programme, aimed at expanding access to education and eradicating poverty. Therefore, every detail of the stages is meticulously attended to,” Ermy explained.
Despite facing several challenges such as rainy weather, material limitations, and access to the project site, Waskita remains optimistic that construction can be completed on time.
To address these obstacles, the company implements various acceleration strategies, including changes to the floor slab structural system, addition of heavy equipment, use of foot plate foundations, and optimisation of material distribution using smaller-sized equipment. Additionally, a batching plant has been added to overcome concrete supply limitations.
From a design perspective, the Subulussalam People’s School is designed with a green building concept that emphasises energy efficiency, local wisdom, disaster safety, as well as room comfort and flexibility.
“The Aceh People’s School construction considers factors such as sustainability and adaptability to ensure the building is comfortable and safe to use. This way, it can optimally support teaching and learning activities,” she added.
Waskita also integrates technology into the construction to support more innovative learning methods.
“We will continue to oversee the People’s School construction, especially those assigned to Waskita Karya. Coordination and on-site supervision are also being strengthened to maintain work quality,” she said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo emphasised the importance of accelerating the resolution of various technical obstacles on site. From construction access, material mobility, to workforce readiness and supporting infrastructure, all must be addressed to ensure the project runs according to target.
“Always prioritise quality in its construction. Both in terms of materials and building structures, because this school must be able to last to be utilised for at least 20 years,” Dody stressed.
For information, at the beginning of 2026, Waskita Karya was entrusted with the People’s School project in Aceh, spread across two regions, namely Nagan Raya Regency and Subulussalam City.
