Warning: Loose Drainage Grates at Jombor Underpass Causing Car Tyres to Burst

A social media post has gone viral regarding the hazardous condition of drainage grates at the Jombor Underpass in Sleman, which have become loose or protruding, causing car tyres to burst. The police and the National Road Implementation (PJN) unit have intervened following the reports.

The complaint originated from the Instagram account @itsnicelle, which shared an unpleasant experience while passing through the Jombor Underpass. The post included photographs showing a burst tyre and detached side bodywork from a vehicle. The post gained widespread attention after being reshared by the @merapi_uncover account.

‘While going down the slope, it turned out the metal grate on the road was protruding,’ the caption stated, according to reports on Saturday (1/8/202_).

When asked for confirmation regarding the incident, the Head of Public Relations for Sleman Police, Iptu Argo Anggoro, confirmed the damaged condition of the drainage grates. However, he noted that no formal reports regarding vehicle damage had been filed with the police at that time.

Despite the lack of formal reports, following the tyre burst incident, the police and PJN have taken action to repair the drainage grates. ‘For now, we have not received any other incidents or reports,’ Argo explained when contacted on Saturday.

‘Regarding the condition of the drainage grates at the Jombor Underpass, the Sleman Police Traffic Unit, together with PJN, has conducted an inspection at the location. Following coordination, repairs will be carried out immediately by PJN and are scheduled to begin today,’ he concluded.
