The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has issued an early warning regarding the potential for coastal flooding, or tidal floods (rob), estimated to occur between 14 and 21 May 2026. This condition requires anticipation from the public, particularly motorists operating in the northern coastal areas of Jakarta.

The warning follows reports from the BMKG Tanjung Priok Maritime Meteorological Station regarding a maximum sea tide phenomenon coinciding with the Super New Moon and Perigee lunar phases. The Head of BPBD Jakarta, Isnawa Adji, stated that this phenomenon could trigger an increase in sea levels in North Jakarta’s coastal regions.

“Coastal residents need to increase preparedness, as the duration of high tides could last for several consecutive days. Ensure that the drainage systems around your homes remain functional to avoid water accumulation,” said Isnawa in a written statement on Monday.

Several areas at risk of being affected include Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, Kalibaru, Muara Angke, Tanjung Priok, and the Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu) region. Drivers are also advised to avoid activities in coastal areas prone to submersion, especially during peak tides at night.

In addition to monitoring road conditions, vehicle owners are advised to park cars in higher, safer locations before the tidal flood arrives. Such preventative measures are crucial to avoid vehicle damage caused by seawater. He recommended washing vehicles thoroughly with fresh water, particularly the undercarriage and hidden crevices, to remove salt residue.
