Bandung – The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted the potential for moderate-to-heavy rain, possibly accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, in West Java over the coming week from 4 to 10 March 2026. The head of BMKG Bandung Station, Teguh Rahayu, said the condition is influenced by several atmospheric dynamics phenomena, including Low Frequency (LF) waves triggering the formation of rain clouds. It is forecast that over the coming week the weather generally carries a risk of rain with moderate to heavy intensity that may be accompanied by thunder and gusty winds between midday, afternoon and night, Teguh said in Bandung on Wednesday. Therefore Teguh urged the public, especially in West Java, to remain vigilant for extreme weather in the coming week. Based on analyses of global to local weather models and observational data, he said, BMKG concludes that there is potential for heavy rain and gusty winds to occur over short durations in several areas of West Java. Teguh said the agency has also issued several recommendations to the public and local governments relating to hydrometeorological hazards, such as floods, landslides, and fallen trees. He added that in facing the transition from the dry season to the wet season this year, the public is urged to be aware of extreme weather potential such as heavy rain, strong winds and lightning, which may occur suddenly. The public is asked to recognise potential disasters in their surroundings and begin to understand how to reduce the risk of such disasters, for example by not littering, working together to maintain cleanliness, and organising the surrounding environment,” Teguh said.
