Warning against military impostors

1. Lately the community has been facing an increasing number of actions of imposture, under the pretense of social activities and anniversary celebrations by organizations and institutions. Community members are contacted by telephone in the name of a high-ranking government official. The targets are usually businesses, agencies, state companies, officials and Armed Forces members and retirees.

2. In the past two months, many reports have come in regarding requests for contributions on behalf of the Jakarta District Military Command (Pangdam Jaya), organization leaders and prominent community figures. The requests are at times accompanied by threats. I therefore appeal to the community not to comply with requests for aid and contributions for which responsibility is not clear. Besides, verification with the officials quoted is necessary. I would also ask the people to report such cases to the related local authority and the police or to the Posko Kewaspadaan (command post for alertness) by telephoning 122 (toll free), Kodam Jaya at 8004415 or the Jakarta Police at 5234558.
