The risk of cyberattacks, ranging from scams to global malware, continues to threaten Indonesia amidst rapid digital technological advancements.

Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), Filianingsih Hendarta, stated that malware and scam attacks against Indonesia reach 560,000 per day. “At the very least, malware attacks reach 560,000 daily, and one in two Indonesians has been exposed to scams within the last 12 months,” Filianingsih said during the Lampung Financial Festival on Saturday (5/9/2026).

This condition, she noted, makes Indonesia the second most vulnerable country to global fraud attacks. According to the Global Fraud Index 2026, Indonesia’s vulnerability level reached 6.53, slightly below Pakistan at 7.48.

Following Indonesia are Nigeria with a vulnerability level of 6.43, India at 6.16, Tanzania at 5.49, Uganda at 5.38, Bangladesh at 5.34, Rwanda at 4.92, Azerbaijan at 4.89, and Sri Lanka at 4.76.

Furthermore, the estimated losses from fraud that has occurred reach US$1.03 trillion, or the equivalent of Rp 16,480 trillion. The estimated losses for 2024 could be even higher due to the high number of unreported incidents, considering the impact on reputation.

“We are ranked second as the most vulnerable to fraud in the world. The estimated losses could reach Rp 16,480 trillion. Therefore, we must be cautious,” said Filianingsih.

Amidst the massive threat of fraud and cyberattacks, Bank Indonesia (BI), as the authority guarding Indonesia’s payment system, is continuously strengthening the digital financial supervision system in the country. “At Bank Indonesia, we have a dedicated department for payment system surveillance and consumer protection,” Filianingsih added.
