Warm Atmosphere as Kaesang Tours Islamic Boarding Schools, Engages Students in Quizzes and Prize Giveaways
PROBOLINGGO — The visit of PSI General Chairman Kaesang Pangarep as part of the Ramadan 2026 Safari tour was met with enthusiasm and warmth by Islamic scholars and students at every Islamic boarding school (pesantren) visited.
Since the arrival of his delegation, students appeared eager and greeted the group with smiles, handshakes, and cheerful greetings. Kaesang and the PSI team have toured Cidahu and Menes Pesantren in Banten, Az Ziyadah and Miftahul Ulum Pesantren in Jakarta, and Nurul Qodim Pesantren in East Java.
The atmosphere felt intimate and familial, with many students appearing delighted to meet directly with the youngest son of Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo. During each visit, Kaesang did not merely participate in iftar and communal tarawih prayers, but also engaged students through national knowledge quizzes and informal dialogue.
“What subject do you enjoy?” Kaesang asked one student.
“Islamic jurisprudence,” the student replied.
“Okay, since you like jurisprudence, I’ll give you a mathematics quiz,” Kaesang said, prompting laughter from the students.
Pesantren administrators and religious leaders present also gave positive responses to the visit. They appreciated Kaesang’s courteous approach and open attitude, noting that he not only came to greet them but also listened and sought their counsel. On several occasions, Kaesang directly requested guidance from Islamic scholars and clerics to strengthen his moral resolve in political struggles.
“Praise be to God, he broke fast here with us. I prepared satay to give him strength and warmth. I apologise if our preparations were not thorough,” said KH Abdul Hadi Noer, head of Nurul Qadim Pesantren.
