Warehouse Fire in Kalideres Sends Black Smoke Billowing
A warehouse building in Kalideres, West Jakarta, caught fire on Friday. Firefighters are still battling to extinguish the blaze. “The object on fire is a warehouse,” said an officer from the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) Command Centre. The fire was reported by residents via telephone to the fire brigade at 5.16 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. The shop-house that caught fire is located on Jalan Satu Maret, RT 01 RW 09, Prepedan Urban Village, Kalideres District, West Jakarta. Initial firefighting operations were handled by the Kalideres Sector Fire Brigade at 5.24 p.m. Firefighters are still working to control the flames to prevent the fire from spreading at the scene. “The situation is still in the process of being extinguished,” he said. A total of 19 fire engines and 95 personnel have been deployed to the location. The cause and chronology of the fire are not yet known. There is also no information yet on whether there are any casualties or injuries in the incident. In photographs received, thick black smoke could be seen billowing from the roof of the warehouse building.
