Waqf Forests Strengthen Conservation Capacity at Tahura Pocut Meurah Intan
An initiative for conservation based on waqf has gained further space in strengthening the capacity of forestry apparatus. Waqf Forest was invited as a speaker in a refresher activity for employees and new contract staff under P3K at Tahura Pocut Meurah Intan on Monday (4/4/2026). The event, held at the Tahura auditorium in the Saree area, was initiated by the Security and Biodiversity Section of the UPTD KPHK Tahura Pocut Meurah Intan. The activity aims to enhance the apparatus’s understanding of conservation and ecological issues that form the foundation of protected forest area management. In the session themed Conservation and Ecology, which began at 3:00 PM WIB, Firman Hadi, representative of IKHW, outlined the development of waqf-based conservation initiatives in Aceh. He explained that the waqf approach is not only based on religious values but can also serve as a strategic instrument in landscape restoration. “Critical lands that were previously degraded have now transformed into forest areas with diverse vegetation. This has a direct impact on increasing the diversity of flora and fauna,” said Firman. According to him, waqf forests can become one model for nature preservation based on forest waqf in Indonesia. This scheme is considered capable of bridging long-term conservation needs with public participation, while ensuring the sustainability of forest resources for future generations. Citing various publications from the Waqf Forest Conservation Initiative (IKHW) via the ikhw.org platform, this approach integrates ecological, social, and spiritual aspects. It goes beyond just planting trees to building collective awareness that forests are a trust that must be maintained sustainably.
