Wanting Anies to Become President, This is the People's Movement's Stance on the Proposal for Presidential Candidates to Be Party Cadres
Jakarta - Deputy General Chairman of the People’s Movement Party, Angga Putra Fidrian, has spoken out regarding the KPK’s proposal that presidential candidates should first go through a party cadre system.
According to Angga, democracy must open opportunities for the nation’s best young people, from within or outside political parties.
The People’s Movement is in a position to want Anies Baswedan to become President.
“The party as an entry point, but it should not limit the nation’s children from becoming national leaders,” said Angga to Kompas.com on Thursday (23/4/2026).
“The electoral system must also provide space for new parties so that the space for political cadre development becomes wider. Do not let parties be limited and hindered, as this will only worsen our political situation,” he added.
The KPK is pushing for this requirement to be added as a clause in the revision of Article 29 of Law No. 2 of 2011 on Political Parties.
“Requirements for prospective presidential/vice-presidential/regional head/deputy regional head candidates, in addition to being democratic and open, add a clause originating from the party cadre system,” as reported by the KPK’s Monitoring Directorate on Thursday (23/4/2026).
