Beijing (ANTARA) - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has stated that the new framework for China-US relations must be based on mutual respect for sovereignty, core interests, and the equality of both nations.

“The political significance of this visit is that Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump are expanding the scope of a new direction for China-US relations, emphasising the importance of respect, fairness, and equality,” Wang said on Saturday.

Wang made these remarks following President Xi’s visit to the United States. He noted that both leaders agreed to build a stable and strategically constructive relationship based on respect, fairness, and equality.

Wang explained that respect entails respecting each other’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, social systems, and chosen paths of development. This also includes respecting the core interests and critical issues of concern to each party.

Wang also highlighted that fairness means developing mutually beneficial cooperation, resolving differences through consultation, and rejecting “zero-sum games” and attempts at unilateral dominance.

Furthermore, he explained that equality means that China and the US are sovereign nations with equal status, without distinction of rank, and without engaging in acts of intimidation or dominance.

“Both countries must address each other’s interests and concerns, and develop balanced cooperation across various fields,” Wang stated.
