The construction of a permanent Sekolah Rakyat (People’s School) building in Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, has reached 91 per cent completion. The government is targeting the project to be finished by mid-July 2026. The progress was confirmed after Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono inspected the school site on Wednesday (1/7). During the visit, he ensured that the completion of the building and supporting facilities is on schedule. “Today we are checking the readiness of the permanent Sekolah Rakyat building in Kulon Progo. The construction of the building, God willing, will be completed by mid-July. Currently, the progress is already 91 per cent,” said Agus Jabo. Agus also inspected a classroom designated for primary school students. The room has been equipped with neatly arranged desks and chairs as part of the school’s operational preparations. The Kulon Progo Sekolah Rakyat will accommodate 314 students from primary, junior high, and senior high school levels. All students are scheduled to begin their School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) on 14 July. “Besides preparing the classrooms and other facilities, cleaning has already commenced. So, when the students enter, the heavy equipment will be gone. The location will also be clean, so it will not disrupt the MPLS process, which starts on 14 July,” Agus Jabo stated. The construction process is being accelerated by the Ministry of Public Works, involving 1,134 workers to ensure completion according to the determined target. The permanent Sekolah Rakyat building in Kulon Progo stands on a 7.1-hectare plot of land located in Gulurejo Village, Lendah District, Kulon Progo Regency, DIY. The school will feature various adequate facilities to support teaching and learning activities, including classrooms, a library, a dormitory building, a place of worship, a basketball court and ceremonial field, as well as flats for teachers and educational staff.
