West Lombok, VIVA – Vice Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto together with West Lombok Civil Servants (ASN) and cadets of the Institute of Governance in Home Affairs (IPDN) Regional NTB carried out a Beach Clean-Up Movement. The activity was conducted in support of the national Indonesia ASRI movement (Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful).

Bima emphasised that the Indonesia ASRI movement is not merely a ceremony or incidental activity, but must become part of the daily life of the regional government (Pemda).

“There is one thing entrusted by the President to all regional heads, and the Minister of Home Affairs asked us to oversee it, namely that we safeguard the ASRI movement — safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful,” he said at the Morning Assembly and Beach Clean-Up at Senggigi Beach, West Lombok, NTB, on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.

He continued that President Prabowo has given special attention to tourist areas, including Lombok. The President emphasised the importance of keeping tourist destinations clean to give a good impression to visitors, including international tourists. Therefore, regional administrations are not allowed to ignore waste issues and must manage them wisely.

“Earlier, during the morning run with these cadets, along the route we also saw heaps of trash. That is our homework, even though the beaches in Lombok, including Senggigi, are beautiful and clean in general. But it would be even better if everyone moved and was not just incidental,” he said.

During the occasion, Bima also cited the Ciliwung Care Community in Bogor which actively cleans up litter. This community has been operating for more than a decade. He said such community-based movements are good practices that the Pemda needs to keep alive.

“There is the Ciliwung Care Community that cleans daily, even expanding, not only to the river but also to parks. So we want this to become part of our collective consciousness,” he added.

Furthermore, he hopes regional heads can embed the ASRI movement through programs that run from upstream to downstream. He said that keeping the area clean is not enough just by picking up trash, but also requires direct involvement of regional heads to go out into the field.
