Jakarta (ANTARA) — The owner of a collapsed wall has built a temporary fence at SMPN 182 Jakarta in Kalibata, Pancoran, South Jakarta, to ensure the safety of students and teachers following the collapse of the residential wall on Sunday, 15 February 2026.

“A temporary fence has been put up for the safety of the children and for those carrying out the reconstruction work,” said Narwan, Acting Head of SMPN 182 Jakarta, speaking to reporters in Jakarta on Monday.

He said the fence construction was progressing well, beginning with the clearance of debris and the demolition of remaining sections of the wall by its owner.

In addition, he said, the embankment along the waterway between SMPN 182 and a nearby beauty clinic was also being repaired.

“Thankfully, as of today, everything we had hoped for is progressing well, starting with the clearance of debris and other works,” Narwan said.

Students and teachers have been assured there is no need to worry about entering the school grounds.

“Today, the children returned after a one-week break and everything went smoothly. Access to the school is unobstructed, and there are no issues in any of the classrooms,” Narwan said.

Beyond the wall, a garden, a duty room and washbasins will also be installed in the school area.

However, the school could not confirm a precise completion date for the construction, given weather conditions and other factors.

“What matters is that there is a commitment — that in itself is a positive thing,” Narwan said.

Infrastructure repairs at SMPN 182 are targeted for completion by 23 February 2026, following the impact of the wall collapse beside the school on Sunday, 15 February 2026.

Earlier, footage went viral on the Instagram account @jakartaselatan24jam showing a CCTV screenshot capturing the moment the wall next to SMPN 182 collapsed on the afternoon of Sunday, 15 February 2026.

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) said the wall collapse was caused by unstable soil conditions.

The incident blocked a drainage channel, though authorities confirmed there were no fatalities or injuries.

Losses resulting from the incident are still being assessed.
