Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Lestari Moerdijat has said that the Scout Movement must be able to play an active role in preparing a superior and competitive generation of future national leaders. This is intended to strengthen youth leadership in the country.

“The momentum of the 65th anniversary of the Scout Movement must be utilised to strengthen the existence of the scouting organisation as a vehicle for character building and leadership development among young people in the country,” said Lestari on Thursday (13/8/2026).

This year’s commemoration carries the theme ‘Strengthening the Organisation’s Steps to Support Food Self-Sufficiency Towards Golden Indonesia 2045’.

According to her, the active role of the Scout Movement can be one of the strategic efforts in addressing the challenge of realising Indonesia’s demographic bonus.

Rerie, as Lestari is affectionately known, emphasised that the demographic bonus, in the form of 70 per cent of Indonesia’s population being of productive age, must be managed properly so that it does not turn into a disaster.

“It is time for young people to create collaborative leadership. Today’s young generation must be ready to receive the baton towards Golden Indonesia. Young people must move now,” she said.

The youth leadership being built, asserted the member of the NasDem Party’s High Council, must be based on the values of Pancasila and the four main pillars of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.

This vision encompasses sovereignty and unity, human development and mastery of science and technology, sustainable economic development, and equitable development.

“The Scout Movement must be able to become an effective instrument in the effort to shape a superior generation with a national spirit. This is the key to producing the golden generation of 2045,” she concluded.
