This also generates economic multipliers, from jobs and investment to manufacturing readiness.

Jakarta (ANTARA) — Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), Eddy Soeparno, said Indonesia’s efforts to confront climate change are not only important for protecting the environment, but also open up new opportunities for economic growth, investment, and employment.

At a press conference at the Government Communication Office (Bakom) in Jakarta on Thursday, Eddy assessed that the climate crisis unfolding in Indonesia is not merely an environmental issue, but has become a threat to the economy and national security.

“This requires beyond-business-as-usual solutions, and energy transition as well as reforestation are now non-negotiable pathways,” he said.

He explained that Indonesia has built an institutional foundation to turn this climate challenge into an economic opportunity, supported by Presidential Regulation 110/2025 and the Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK) as part of strengthening policy integrity.

“This also generates economic multipliers, from jobs and investment to manufacturing readiness,” he said.

According to him, Indonesia remains committed to seriously addressing climate issues, with the Abadi Masela project serving as an example of aligning the agendas of economic growth, energy security, and climate change mitigation simultaneously.

The government launched the Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK) on 9 July 2026 as the foundation for developing the national carbon market.

The system is managed by the Ministry of Environment to record, manage, and verify carbon units that are traded.

The existence of SRUK is reinforced through Minister of Environment/Head of BPLH Regulation Number 10 of 2026 on the Carbon Unit Registry System.

The government stated that SRUK is designed to support transparent, credible, and integrity-driven carbon trading, while preventing double counting of emission reductions.
