Waiting for RI to mature
Waiting for RI to mature
From Media Indonesia
It can happen that a person is physically or chronologically
"grown-up" but is still childish in behavior. The same thing can
also be said of a nation. The maturity of a nation does not come
with the years of independence it has enjoyed, but lies in how it
respects its heroes.
Government officials of certain positions are invited to
attend a ceremony marking the celebration of the country's
independence. It is unfortunate that the same officials are no
longer invited to this event. Worse still, the invitations that
have been extended to them are canceled. Even though another
invitation is again extended, accompanied by an apology, what is
done is done.
Besides, it is also sad to notice that no former presidents,
who are still alive, attended the celebration of the country's
independence anniversary. In fact, the government has been
calling for national unity.
These two examples show our lack of maturity as a nation. It
is clear that we are still dominated by the feelings of revenge,
annoyance and envy.
We may have a better tomorrow only if we can reform ourselves.
God will change the destiny of a nation only if this nation makes
an effort to introduce this change.
