Waiter killed in fire

BOGOR: A restaurant waiter, Samsudin, 18, was killed in a fire that swept through his employer's house on Jl. Siliwangi, Sukasari, early on Friday.

The house owner, Edi Gunawan, 52, and family members -- wife Leni, 49, and their children Iefung, 23, Robin, 20, and Christopher, 17, -- sustained burns to several parts of their bodies.

Leni said she saw that the fire had started at about 3 a.m. when she was about to wake Samsudin up for a predawn meal.

Within seconds the fire quickly engulfed a room and members of the family escaped from the house through a back window to safety. However, Samsudin was slow in escaping and was killed in the fire.

Robin said he suspected the fire had been started by his close relatives due to a family dispute over an inheritance asset.

"The family dispute is going on right now," he said.

The incident is being investigated by South Bogor subprecinct police. -- JP
